The City of Coral Gables, in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States, is located southwest of Downtown Miami with a population of approximately 50,000 people. The City of Coral Gables promotes the development of a smart city ecosystem that fosters innovation by bringing together through technology People, Businesses, Organizations, Things, and Systems. By leveraging strategic planning and innovation, the City's digital transformation and smart initiatives can benefit its citizens with continual improvement to customer service and quality of life. Its smart city plan implements several interconnected and interoperable elements that include a Smart City Hub, Data Platforms, Internet of Things, and a robust and resilient technology infrastructure, especially critical in times of severe weather, with high-speed communications.

Raimundo Rodulfo, Director of Information Technology for the City of Coral Gables, will discuss the technical challenges that the city faced when it was creating a resistant, reliable communications network to safeguard its infrastructure and ensure uptime of critical services. Additionally, he will provide comments on their current efforts and discuss the challenges they are facing as they move forward with the development of the Coral Gables collaboration and open data platform.

About the Speaker

Raimundo Rodulfo, Information Technology Director of City of Coral Gables, Florida

Raimundo Rodulfo is an IEEE Senior Member with twenty-five years of working experience delivering value, sustainability and innovation to customers and organizations. He is the Information Technology Director of City of Coral Gables, Florida, responsible for strategic planning and management of city-wide IT operations, infrastructure and initiatives. Prior to joining the City in 2004, he worked for ten years in the private sector, including seven years in Bellsouth as a development engineer. He also worked on joint projects with Motorola, Lucent, Agilent, IBM and Cisco, and developed electronic systems for Siemens and NCR.

Mr. Rodulfo is a Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.), a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and a Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB). He holds a Master's Degree in Engineering Management from Florida International University (FIU), a Graduate Certificate in Enterprise Systems from FIU, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from National Polytechnic University.
