Higher Education Model for Smart Cities

Smart Cities have been planned by many nations as an integrated part of the globalized world which has been rapidly changing the dynamics of the education system. Would it, then, be sufficient to restructure the curriculum & tinker with the delivery mechanism? OR would it be prudent to holistically reinvent & transform the current education system in line with the aspirations of the stakeholders? What macro and micro level changes would be required in the current education system if it were to be redesigned for Smart Cities of the modern globalized world? In view of such developments, SMART Synergistic education model was conceptualized to catalyze that transformation. The SMART attributes of the proposed model are discussed in this presentation. The proposed SMART attributes are substantially different from commonly used SMART term in management literature. An idealism of globalized mindset, & localized lifestyles has also been artistically interwoven in the proposed SMART model.

About the Speaker
Dr. Deepak Waikar (Managing Partner for EduEnergy Consultants LLP, Singapore, and Chair of the IEEE Education Society Singapore Chapter) has been involved in education, training, research, and management fields for almost three decades. He has authored/co-authored book chapters, research articles, and policy papers on power, energy, management, and education related topics. He has served on various committees of professional bodies such as Chairman of the IEEE, Power Engineering Chapter, Singapore, and Vice Chairman of World Energy Council, Singapore. He is a recipient of the IEEE Power Engineering Society’s Outstanding Power Engineers' Award 2003 and the SP-Green Buddy Award 2004. He has delivered invited presentations on power, energy, education, management, and leadership related topics at the international conferences, seminars, and forums. Dr. Waikar is a Senior Member of the IEEE USA and a life member of the Institution of Engineers, India. Dr. Waikar completed Ph.D. (the National University of Singapore, M.S. (the University of Saskatchewan, Canada) and Professional Development Certificate of University Teaching (University of Newcastle, Australia). He also obtained PG-DBM (Nagpur University), M.Tech. (IIT-Banaras Hindu University) and B.E. (The Government Engineering College, Aurangabad) in India, respectively.
